Browser beware: Next Blog

The 433rd blogs are hosted by Blogger (a Google service). Part of that service includes the Blogger Navigation bar at the top.

Please note that the 433rd does not control where the Next Blog link will take you.

Current reports indicate there is ongoing abuse of blogging services to post objectionable materials. Some of these so-called spam blogs contain viruses and malware. If you do find yourself on a page with objectionable materials, please report it via the FLAG BLOG link (also on the Navigation bar).

At this time, we strongly recommend not using the Next Blog link.

Update: Google has been taking action to clean this up. There is a good article, here.

Nonetheless - use with care.

Weston Santa Claus Parade

On Sunday November 25th the 433rd (2007) will be participating in the Weston Santa Clause Parade. We will be the guests of the 1st Weston who are organizing the float.

This is an optional all sections event.

Here is a map to the parade.

Parade Times:
  • Arrive - before 1pm due to Road Closures for Parade
  • Meet at Float (Weston & Church, North of Lawrence) @ 1pm
  • Float enters parade @ 2pm
  • Parade ends (estimated) @ 3:30pm
  • Pizza and hot chocolate at/near Sidney Belsley Cres School (est. 3:30-4pm)
  • Pickup (est.) 4-4:30pm
Just a word, I just got caught in the road closure last year. Everything from Royal York/St. Phillips down past Sidney Belsey is closed. The only way in after that is to crawl through the traffic from near the Super Centre or from the Jane/Lawrence side.

Parents should be able to pickup their kids near the school as the roads open after the parade ends.

Please ensure that all participants are in uniform and dressed appropriately for the weather.

Participation counts towards one of the Scout Centennial Crest Wedges.

Enter the Bat Page ...

So that we can keep this blog focused on significant group announcements and events, I've set up The Bat Page as a place to post articles on scoutcraft, resources, and related interest.

Thanks, Mang

Using Web Feeds for blog headlines

Readers of blogs (and online newspapers) can take advantage of technology that delivers headlines to you dynamically. Dynamic feeds are provided by standard services called RSS and Atom.

For those of you who aren't familiar with how to use these feeds, look at the bottom of this blog, you should see a subscription link.
Subscribe to: Posts (Atom)"
Both Internet Explorer (and Firefox) support subscribing to feeds. After clicking on the subscription link should you should see plain version of recent blog articles with a box at the top inviting you to subscribe that includes a link saying "Subscribe to this feed" (or a "Subscribe Now" button).

By default, Internet Explorer will put your feed into a folder called "Microsoft feeds" and displayed under feeds in your favorites centre (and similarly, Firefox will add the or Live Bookmark to your book marks tool bar along with "Firefox Aids").

Just click on the feed icon and you should see recent article titles in on a page (or as a list of book marks). It's a great way to keep up to date.
